Dr. Douglas Miller is a Research Professor of Landscape Science and Informatics, Emeritus in the Departments of Geography and Ecosystem Science and Management at Penn State. He has been actively involved in the instruction and application of remote sensing and geospatial technology to interdisciplinary research challenges in the earth and environmental sciences for more than 40 years.

Dr. Miller founded and directed, for 22 years, the Center for Environmental Informatics (CEI) in the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute where he and staff members developed innovative, web-based tools and applications that allow individuals to make useful and productive decisions in numerous agricultural and environmental management contexts. He has been a PI or Co-PI on >$34M in externally sponsored grants from agencies including NASA, NOAA, NSF, EPA, USDA and others.

He also served as the founding Advising Coordinator for the online Masters of GIS program from 2004 to 2016, where he was responsible for coordinating advising for ~300 MGIS graduates. He has served as a graduate faculty adviser for 57 MGIS graduate students.

Dr. Miller has degrees from Penn State in Earth Science (BS), Agronomy (MS), and Soil Science (PhD).
